New Directions helped me learn how to work smarter

“I’ve often heard that because of my developmental disabilities, I must work harder to succeed. Hard work is a good start, but smart work seems to be smarter. I am a member of the International Society for Autism (ISA – Dr. Rubin’s non-profit) and a client of New Directions and these programs helped me learn how to work smarter. While working in a group setting to organize events with the ISA, communication is key as is responsibility and reliability. I used my experience there along with vocational counseling through New Directions to find and hold a job in the area. I was actually surprised with how well I was prepared to acclimate to the retail work environment. I’m very proud of the progress I’ve made and I can’t deny the role that these two programs had in helping me along.”
